Goree Island, Senegal

With interviews completed in Senegal and a tentative slate of candidates identified for the program, we left Dakar by ferry for nearby Goree Island.  Today the island is home for about 1,200 permanent residents and an attraction for tourists. During the years of the slave trade, the island served as the final port of departure from Africa for the men, women, and children captured and bound for slavery.
